Welcome to Camp Sunshine 2011!
Welcome, one and all, to the 29th year of Camp Sunshine! We’re delighted to see all of your smiling faces, and we look forward to another awesome week. Whether you’re just starting your Camp journey or you’ve been here for 29 years, you’re about to create some amazing memories.
Our theme this year is “Stars, Stripes, and Sunshine Forever” in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday. During the week, be sure to show your patriotic spirit with decorations, costumes, songs, and whatever else you can think of. We want everyone to know how much Camp Sunshine loves our country.
This summer, we are excited to introduce the Camp Sunshine garden and food farm. Our new garden allows campers (and counselors and staff) to grow various vegetables and possibly chow down on them. Lots of previous activities are also returning, including the zip line, putt-putt golf, the pamper pole (climbing to the top and jumping off), arts & crafts, computers, pottery, biking, fishing, the ropes course, and MANY more. Check your activity schedules to see what all is available to do each day. Again, welcome to Camp Sunshine for 2011. Let us know if we can do anything to help.
Have a fantastic week! This afternoon, the gym was packed with all our campers preparing for another big week at Camp. Welcome to all! The Daily Sunshine spoke to several of our campers to learn more about them and their hopes for Camp this week
2011 Camp Goals
It is important for us to set attainable goals to impact the camp community during our week of camp and throughout the year. Please review them below and remember them throughout the week at summer camp and at year-round programs.
Through a creatively designed, camper-centered program that embraces cabin life, guided and intentional instruction, exposure to new activities, peer support, and fun, we intend to empower our staff and campers to achieve these goals:
- To provide a fun, safe and exciting camping adventure for all participants regardless of their medical needs
- To recognize and utilize individuals strengths.
- To enhance and foster self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence.
- To promote growth through self-discovery and expression.
- To develop a sense of independence and interdependence.
- To foster memorable friendships.
- To create a nurturing community of peers facing similar situations.
- To provide the highest quality of medical care that is non-intrusive to camp life.
